The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has announced the distribution of Teak Trees (Haivakaru gas) for planting across various islands in the Maldives.

As part of this year’s World Environment Day activities, the trees are set to be planted at several resorts throughout the Maldives. The Ministry is currently donating trees to resorts that have expressed interest in participating in the programme. The first shipment of high-quality Teak Trees has already been delivered to all airports across the country.

Furthermore, the second phase of the programme is underway, focusing on donating trees to all residential islands. These plantings will serve as environmental landmarks across the Maldives.

In connection with World Environment Day, the Ministry has organised various tree-planting activities. To support the initiative, a promotional banner encouraging the planting of five million trees on one island in each atoll has been distributed. Additionally, the Ministry plans to conduct tree-planting programmes this month in Meemu Atoll, Raa Atoll, and Shaviyani Atoll.

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment emphasises that planting high-quality Teak Trees (Haivakaru gas) represents an important step towards protecting the Maldives’ natural environment. To date, more than 500,000 trees have been successfully planted as part of the 5 Million Trees Program, highlighting the ongoing commitment to environmental conservation across the country.
