The Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL) resumed operations at Funadhoo Airport after a temporary suspension caused by a technical issue with the airport’s fire truck earlier on Saturday.

The disruption led the national carrier, Maldivian, to reschedule its flights to Noonu Maafaru, affecting passengers scheduled to travel through Funadhoo.

RACL stated that the issue highlights ongoing challenges with ageing equipment across its network of airports. The company noted that when the current management assumed control, all airport vehicles, including those at Funadhoo, were already outdated. Efforts are now underway to procure new and modern vehicles.

A similar incident occurred in October last year, when a fire truck breakdown at Funadhoo Airport led to a temporary halt in services.

RACL has apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers and assured the public that it is working to enhance the quality of services across all airports under its management.

Funadhoo Airport, which officially opened in 2020, features a 1,200-metre-long and 30-metre-wide runway, a 90-metre taxiway, and a 150-metre by 50-metre apron designed to accommodate regional aircrafts. The airport plays a vital role in serving both the residents of Shaviyani Atoll and tourists visiting the region.
