Prominent Maldivian religious scholar Sheikh Ibrahim Fareed Ahmed has passed away in Malaysia.

Sheikh Fareed died shortly after arriving at the airport, where he was receiving medical treatment. He had travelled to Malaysia earlier on Monday to attend a scheduled meeting.
