The Maldives Police Service and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) have engaged in discussions to strengthen and sustain joint efforts and cooperation aimed at enhancing public safety and safeguarding national interests.

The discussions took place on Wednesday morning at the MNDF Headquarters during a meeting between the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Ismail Naveen, and the Chief of Defence Force, Major General Ibrahim Hilmy.

During the introductory meeting between the two leaders, they reviewed ongoing national security initiatives and stressed the importance of continued cooperation between the Maldives Police Service and the MNDF.

The discussion also focused on strengthening joint efforts to ensure public safety and protect the nation’s interests.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu appointed Naveen as the new Commissioner of Police on Tuesday, following the resignation of former commissioner Ibrahim Shujau on April 25.

Ismail Naveen, who joined the Maldives Police Service in 2006, has held several senior leadership positions throughout his career, including Head of the Corporate Services Directorate, People Directorate, Central Policing Command, and Forensic Services Directorate. Before his appointment as Commissioner, he served as Deputy Commissioner of Police and took on interim leadership of the force following the resignation of former Commissioner Ali Shujau.
