A mosque is being built in Bangladesh in memory of late Sheikh Ibrahim Fareed Ahmed, with all necessary funds now raised.
The initiative was launched by the Khidhumaiy, an non-government organisation (NGO) that had closely worked with Sheikh Fareed during his lifetime. The group announced its decision to build the mosque as a tribute to the late Sheikh's contributions to Islamic education and community development.
According to the association, the mosque will span 250 square metres and accommodate up to 455 worshippers at a time. The total estimated cost of the project is MVR 760,000. The association confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that the full amount required for construction has already been received and extended its gratitude to those who contributed financially.
Sheikh Fareed was widely admired in the Maldives for his dedication to spreading Islamic teachings. His public lectures were known for their depth, clarity, and wide appeal, drawing large audiences across the country.
Following his passing in Malaysia earlier this week, the funeral was held there on Wednesday. As announced by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Salat al-Gha'ib (funeral prayer in absentia) will be held across all mosques in the Maldives after Jummah prayers on Friday.
