The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced plans to roll out the nationwide Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry service before the end of the year, as part of efforts to enhance inter-island connectivity.

In an interview with state media, MTCC CEO Ahmed Saeed stated that the company is actively working to expand both its workforce and vessel fleet to support the nationwide implementation of the RTL ferry service.

To facilitate this expansion, the Indian government has allocated a grant of MVR 100 million, and additional vessels are currently being handed over for construction.

Saeed noted that an additional 56 vessels are required to expand the service and ensure its smooth operation. He expressed confidence that, with this expansion, the RTL ferry service will be operational across all atolls by the end of the year.

MTCC plans to launch the RTL ferry service in Raa Atoll later this month, with operations expected to commence in Baa Atoll the following month.
