The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has announced that adverse weather conditions are expected to persist across the country today, with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms likely in some areas, particularly during the afternoon.
According to the latest forecast, strong southwest and west winds are expected in the northern and central regions, ranging between 15 and 25 miles per hour. Winds in the southern atolls are expected to be lighter, between 7 and 17 miles per hour. However, gusts of up to 40 miles per hour may occur in some areas.
Sea conditions are forecast to be rough in the central and northern regions, with moderate conditions expected in the south. Wave heights are likely to reach between 4 and 7 feet, prompting a warning for seafarers.
The MET Office stated that the current weather pattern is associated with the Southwest Monsoon. While the southern atolls can expect improvements from Sunday, conditions in the northern and central regions are expected to ease beginning Monday.
The public has been advised to exercise caution and stay updated on official weather alerts due to the possibility of severe weather.
