The Government has condemned the Israeli airstrikes launched against Iran, warning that the attacks pose a serious threat to peace and stability in the Middle East.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Maldives described the strikes as an act of aggression that further undermines international law. The Government expressed deep concern over the timing of the attack, noting that it comes amid ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza, and said the cumulative effect of these actions would only deepen instability across the region.

The statement also accused Israel of continuing to show blatant disregard for international norms, citing the latest offensive as another example of what it described as repeated violations. The Government called on the international community to act swiftly to prevent further escalation and to pursue coordinated efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions.

Reports from Iranian and international media claimed that the Israeli strikes killed several senior Iranian figures, including Revolutionary Guards commander Hossein Salami and nuclear scientists Fereydoun Abbasi-Davani and Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, the head of Islamic Azad University. Gholam Ali Rashid, commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, was also reported to have been killed. While Iranian state outlets initially contested some of the reports, multiple independent sources have since confirmed the deaths.
