Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib has confirmed that the handover of the 4,000 flats being developed by Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) in Hulhumalé Phase Two will be carried out in stages, depending on the completion of utility services.
Speaking to local media, the Minister stated that the handover process is expected to begin in July, with the final handovers scheduled to be completed by September. He explained that the timeline will depend on the readiness of essential utility connections, which are being finalised section by section.
The Minister expressed satisfaction with the current pace and quality of the project, noting that the Government had placed special priority on accelerating progress since taking office. He credited FDC and the two contractors involved for significantly increasing the speed of construction.
At the time the Administration assumed office, the overall project completion stood at around 33 per cent. Over the past 18 months, substantial progress has been made, with the towers Amaan Dhoadhi reaching 96 per cent and Amaan Udhares at 95 per cent completion. The remaining work primarily involves the installation of utility services.
The Minister highlighted that utility infrastructure was not originally included in the initial design of the project. As a result, the Government has contracted the installation of necessary services to the State Electric Company (STELCO) and the Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) to ensure timely completion.
The housing project is the largest social housing initiative currently underway in the Greater Malé Region. Recipients of the flats have long awaited the chance to move in, following multiple delays. With handovers now on the horizon, many are hopeful that the long-anticipated relocation will soon become a reality.
