The Criminal Court on Monday ordered Hassan Mamdhooh, who is on trial for fraud related to the K-Park Residence flats in Hulhumalé, to remain in custody for the duration of the proceedings.

Mamdhooh, a minority shareholder of Hanbo Company Private Limited, was arrested and charged with multiple offences related to the fraudulent sale of apartments at the K-Park Residence project. Although previously released after charges were filed, the court has now remanded him due to his repeated failure to attend hearings.

During Monday's hearing, Judge Ali Nadheem noted that several proceedings had been disrupted by Mamdhooh’s absences and ruled that the medical reports submitted did not provide valid reasons for his non-appearance. Mamdhooh was presented to court in police custody for the latest hearing.

The Prosecutor General’s Office has filed 50 counts of misrepresentation for illicit benefit, 50 counts of fraud, three counts of forgery and one count of money laundering against Mamdhooh.

The case escalated after charges were filed against Mamdhooh for allegedly presenting a forged document signed in the name of Jin Shihu, the 95 per cent shareholder of Hanbo Company. Prosecutors stated that the document was used to mislead a third party without Jin Shihu’s knowledge or authorisation.
