President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced the commencement of ferry services in Raa Atoll, marking a key milestone in his Administration’s nationwide public transport initiative.

The launch fulfils the President’s earlier pledge to begin operations in Raa Atoll before the end of June. In a post on X, he confirmed the official launch and revealed that ferry services in Baa Atoll are also expected to begin before the end of July, with final preparations underway.

To encourage public familiarisation, RTL ferry services in Raa Atoll will be provided free of charge from June 26 to July 2. Ticketed services are scheduled to begin on July 3 via the RTL website and mobile application.

With the addition of Raa Atoll, RTL ferry operations now cover a total of 10 atolls nationwide. Services are already operational in Laamu and Noonu Atolls under Zone 2 of the national public transport network.

The RTL project is being implemented in three phases across six zones by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), which is leading efforts to roll out services to all atolls by the end of the year.

The President noted that implementation work across the country is progressing as planned, with the aim of ensuring reliable and accessible transport services for all Maldivians. He also extended his congratulations to the residents of Raa Atoll and reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to expanding ferry connectivity to all remaining atolls by year-end.
