Two individuals have sustained serious burn injuries in a fire that broke out in Thaa Vilufushi, according to authorities.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) confirmed that the fire erupted on an oil tanker in Vilufushi and is currently being tackled by the MNDF Central Area Command Fire and Rescue Unit.

The incident was reported to MNDF at 9:41 a.m. today.

The owner of one of the boats and a foreign national sustained burn injuries in the incident and are currently receiving treatment at the Vilufushi Health Centre.

According to sources, the fire first broke out on the oil tanker and later spread to a nearby boat, causing both vessels to catch fire.
