President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, accompanied by First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level Maldivian delegation, undertook a visit to the headquarters of the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and ITE College Central as part of his state visit to Singapore.
Upon arrival, the delegation was warmly received by Dr Goh Mong Song, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Institute.
ITE, operating through its subsidiary body ITE Education Services (ITEES), has established a strong international presence by providing skills development and vocational training services to foreign Governments, private entities, and international organisations. In recognition of shared goals, ITE management formally welcomed the Maldives as an institutional partner during the visit.
This partnership was further solidified earlier in the state visit, with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between ITE and the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development. The agreement lays the groundwork for cooperation in multiple domains, including higher education, educational policy, technical and vocational training, and research.
During a briefing session, ITE officials outlined the Institute’s approach to programme development, which is undertaken in close collaboration with industry experts to ensure alignment with evolving market demands. The curriculum, they noted, integrates the cultivation of soft skills alongside technical competencies.
In response, President Dr Muizzu conveyed his appreciation for ITE’s engagement and support. He underscored the importance of progressing with the agreed terms of cooperation, with particular emphasis on the reciprocal provision of technical and vocational education tailored to the distinct strengths of each nation.
The Maldivian delegation toured several of ITE’s specialised facilities. These included the User Experience Hub of the School of Design and Media, InvITE of the School of Business Services, and the Aerospace Hub of the School of Engineering.
