The Bank of Maldives (BML) has clarified that customers can continue to use four of its cards to make purchases on foreign websites without incurring additional charges.

Through its official social media accounts, BML confirmed that credit cards (both MVR and USD), travel cards, USD debit cards, and business debit cards can be used for transactions on platforms such as Temu, Shein, Alibaba, AliExpress, Lazada, and eBay without incurring extra charges.

This clarification follows BML’s announcement on Monday that transactions made using an MVR debit card will now incur a 30 per cent fee on these websites.

Currently, BML offers both MVR and USD credit cards through Amex and Visa, along with MVR Mastercard options. Customers can apply for credit cards via Internet Banking or the BML app, while applications for travel cards and business cards can be submitted through the application form available on the bank’s website.
