More than 400 vehicles have been towed from Malé City’s two main roads since authorities began stricter parking enforcement last month.
According to the Maldives Police Service, a total of 422 illegally parked vehicles were towed between 12 June and June 30. Of these, 219 vehicles were removed from Majeedhee Magu and 203 from Boduthakurufaanu Magu.
Police stated that the operation is part of broader efforts to improve both vehicular and pedestrian movement in the city. They added that action will also be taken against the drivers of these illegally parked vehicles, with towed vehicles released after 48 hours.
Towing operations in Boduthakurufaanu Magu were formally announced by police on 19 June 2025, while similar measures for Majeedhee Magu had been introduced last year. In addition to towing, police have also been disposing of abandoned and unclaimed vehicles.
