Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen has revealed that a UK Civil Aviation (UK CA) assessment will be conducted as part of efforts to resume commercial helicopter services in the Maldives, ensuring the service meets international safety and quality standards.

Speaking on a programme on Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adu, Minister Ameen stated that bid evaluations have been conducted as part of the preparations to reintroduce helicopter services in the Maldives.

He noted that several international companies expressed interest in operating the service; however, challenges persist in meeting the required quality and safety standards.

Minister Ameen highlighted that past safety concerns, including a serious incident involving helicopter services 25 years ago, remain a key reason for the government’s cautious approach in reintroducing the service.

He stated that the new helicopter operations will only be launched after a thorough assessment by the UK Civil Aviation Authority to ensure compliance with international safety and service standards.
