As part of his ongoing state visit to Singapore, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu paid a visit to the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) today, where he was introduced to the city-state’s comprehensive approach to urban development and planning.
The President was received by Adele Tan Shiao Ling, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Planner of the URA, along with Sia Tze Ming, Director of Policy and Property at Singapore’s Housing and Development Board.
The URA is internationally recognised for its district conservation programme and remains committed to developing sustainable living environments. As Singapore’s primary land use planning and conservation authority, it also serves as the government’s principal agency for land sales.
During the session, the President and his delegation attended a detailed presentation outlining Singapore’s long-term polycentric urban planning strategy. The briefing highlighted the country’s commitment to fostering a safe, smart, and liveable city, with a particular focus on ensuring convenience and accessibility for its residents.
Following the presentation, a question-and-answer session provided further insight into Singapore’s planning philosophy. Discussions covered the integration of public participation in multisectoral urban planning, the emphasis on climate resilience in city development, and the government's approach to ensuring affordable housing for all citizens.
To conclude the visit, the delegation toured the Singapore City Gallery, an exhibition managed by the URA that chronicles the evolution of the nation's urban planning efforts and city management strategies over the past few decades.
