Theft and traffic violations top crime reports in June

Theft and traffic violations topped the list of reported crimes in June, according to statistics released by the Maldives Police Service.
Police statistics show a decline in reported cases in June, with 961 cases recorded compared to 1,020 in May.
Of the 961 cases reported in June, theft topped the list with 288 incidents, followed by traffic violations with 255 reported cases.
The statistics showed that drug-related offences were the third most reported, with 162 cases recorded in June.
The cases also included 67 reports of missing property, 40 cases of property damage, 45 cases of injury, 22 cases of domestic violence, 20 cases of sexual assault, 21 cases of robbery, 33 cases of fraud, and 8 cases of forgery.
Police stations across the cities and atolls are collaborating with local councils to curb crime. Authorities continue to urge the public to avoid speeding and adhere to traffic regulations to reduce road accidents.
