NSPA spends over MVR 14 million on medical aid in May

In May, the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) spent more than MVR 14 million to support medical treatment for individuals who were unable to meet healthcare costs.

According to data released by the Agency, a total of MVR 14,236,810.51 was disbursed for the treatment of various medical conditions, both within the Maldives and overseas. The breakdown is as follows:

  • Treatment and medication within the country: MVR 10,327,236.56
  • Treatment and medication abroad: MVR 3,909,573.95

In addition, the NSPA provided further insight into how funds were distributed in the first five months of the current financial year. This covered admissions to private hospitals across the country:

  • Admission to ADK Hospital: MVR 32 million for 190 beneficiaries
  • Admission to Tree Top Hospital: MVR 41 million for 334 beneficiaries

Further details were provided on the specific types of treatment supported at these hospitals.

At ADK Hospital:

  • Most common treatments: Bone diseases and reproductive health (27 patients)
  • Highest funding allocation: Heart-related treatment (MVR 994,871 for 14 individuals)

At Tree Top Hospital:

  • Most common treatment: reproductive health (64 patients)
  • Highest funding allocation: Bone disease treatment (MVR 1,221,484.69 for 53 individuals)

The Agency also disclosed figures for medical assistance provided from January to May under its broader support programme for those unable to afford treatment:

  • Total assistance provided: MVR 121,753,820.63

Alongside the contributions made by the NSPA, Aasandha also reported significant spending on patient care over the same five-month period, with total disbursements exceeding MVR 950 million.
