President Dr Mohamed Muizzu paid a visit to Singapore's Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) today.
Upon arrival, President Dr Muizzu was received by senior officials from Singapore’s urban planning institutions. Among those welcoming the President were Ms Adele Tan Shiao Ling, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Planner of the URA, and Ms Sia Tze Ming, Director (Policy & Property) at the Housing and Development Board.
The URA is internationally recognised for its district conservation programme and plays a pivotal role in shaping Singapore’s urban landscape. As the country's authority on land use planning and conservation, as well as the primary government agent for land sales, the URA is instrumental in the creation of sustainable living spaces throughout the city-state.
The visit featured a presentation for the President and his delegation, outlining Singapore’s polycentric approach to long-term urban planning. The briefing emphasised the city’s ongoing efforts to develop and maintain a safe, smart, and liveable urban environment with a strong focus on resident convenience.
Following the presentation, a question and answer session was held to provide further context on the country's planning strategies. The discussion highlighted Singapore’s commitment to involving the public in multisectoral urban planning processes. It also covered the government’s strategies for enhancing climate resilience in city development and its policies aimed at ensuring affordable housing for all citizens.
President Dr Muizzu was later given a guided tour of the URA’s Singapore City Gallery. The gallery chronicles the evolution of Singapore’s urban planning challenges and the innovative solutions developed over the past several decades.
The visit formed part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s official itinerary during his ongoing state visit to Singapore.
