Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced a strategic partnership with Parley Maldives to strengthen ocean conservation efforts as part of its newly launched environmental initiative, ENV POS.
Under the ENV POS programme, BML will contribute a portion of its earnings from every transaction made through its Point of Sale (POS) terminals to fund environmental initiatives across the Maldives. The contributions will be made at no cost to customers or merchants, allowing every transaction to support the nation’s environmental sustainability goals.
In collaboration with Parley Maldives, BML will help fund the export of plastic waste collected in the Maldives for recycling in Germany, Taiwan, and Malaysia. The initiative supports the Parley AIR strategy, “Avoid. Intercept. Redesign”, aimed at ending marine plastic pollution.
CEO and Managing Director of BML Mohamed Shareef expressed pride in the partnership with Parley to make a real difference by supporting their work to protect the oceans, reduce overall plastic use, and create the future of materials.
He also revealed that as an extension of the partnership, BML plans to introduce new bank cards made with Parley Ocean Plastic, using plastic waste intercepted in the Maldives.
The ENV POS initiative reflects BML’s broader commitment to long-term environmental responsibility while enabling customers to contribute to a greener Maldives simply by using BML POS terminals in daily transactions.
With its extensive national presence and digital banking services, BML continues to play a vital role in advancing environmental and financial sustainability in the Maldives.
