ID card printing services have been officially launched in Fuvahmulah City and Addu City, as part of the Government’s wider initiative to decentralise public services and improve nationwide access.

The Department of National Registration (DNR) confirmed that ID card printing is now available in Fuvahmulah as well as in Hulhudhoo and Hithadhoo in Addu City, eliminating the need to print and dispatch ID cards from Malé.

According to the DNR, the aim is to expand this service to every atoll by the end of the year, having already introduced local ID card printing in 23 islands so far.

In addition to strengthening services within the country, the Government has been working to extend ID card printing to locations with large Maldivian communities abroad. In April 2025, the service was introduced in Malaysia for the first time outside the Maldives, with plans to expand to Sri Lanka, India, and the United Kingdom.
