President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended greetings to the President of the United States, Donald Trump, as well as to the American government and people, on the occasion of the country’s Independence Day.

In a message shared on his official X account, President Dr Muizzu conveyed his best wishes for continued freedom and progress as the United States marks its 249th year of independence. The day commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, when the American colonies formally declared their separation from British rule.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and the United States were established in 1966, a year after the Maldives gained independence. Since then, bilateral ties have steadily strengthened through cooperation in areas such as development, governance, climate change, and maritime security.
