The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has begun laying new tarmac on the main entrance road to Velana International Airport (VIA), as part of ongoing preparations for the opening of the airport’s new terminal.

According to MACL, the work is being carried out by the Road and Airfield Maintenance Section under its Facilities Management Department. The project will proceed in four phases, with roadworks scheduled nightly from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. until July 7. Resurfacing is expected to be fully completed by July 10, 2025.

During this period, one-way traffic will be allowed to maintain limited access. MACL has deployed estate security to manage traffic and ensure commuter safety, while signboards, road markings, and barriers have been installed to alert drivers of the ongoing works.

The new terminal is set to open on July 26, 2025.
