Maldives and India held high-level talks at the Economic Ministry on Thursday to strengthen trade ties and explore new opportunities for investment.

Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed described the meeting with India’s Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal as productive in a post on X, noting that discussions focused on enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries.

The talks build on ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral engagement. In recent years, business forums promoting Maldivian investment opportunities have been held in three major Indian cities.

India remains a key development partner, funding major projects such as the Thilamalé Bridge and the Hanimaadhoo International Airport expansion. It has also extended a $400 million currency swap facility to support the Maldivian economy.
