The Government of Morocco has officially announced that Maldivian imams will have the opportunity to pursue Arabic language studies in Morocco.
The Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, stated that arrangements have been made to facilitate this opportunity for Maldivian imams, further strengthening religious education and linguistic proficiency.
The Minister explained that a special institute established in Morocco for the purpose of teaching Arabic to imams operates under the direct supervision of His Majesty the King of Morocco. The institute not only provides accommodation for the students but also offers them a monthly allowance during the course of their studies.
Minister Dr Shaheem further noted that an agreement concerning the dispatch of Maldivian imams to study in Morocco will be signed with the Moroccan Government in the near future. He confirmed that the Ministry of Islamic Affairs has already received the draft agreement, marking a significant step towards its finalisation.
The Government continues to place particular emphasis on the training and professional development of imams. Over the past eighteen months, numerous training opportunities have been made available to imams as part of the Government’s commitment to enhancing religious education.
In addition, a major project is currently underway to provide specialised training for young imams, ensuring the development of future religious leadership in the Maldives.
