Four individuals were injured on Sunday afternoon after a launch went out of control and crashed into the ferry terminal jetty in Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo City.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:50 p.m. as the vessel was approaching the terminal. The launch, which had six people on board, suddenly lost control and struck the jetty with significant force.

Among those on board were three women, a one-year-old child, the captain and a crew member. The impact left two passengers, the captain, and the crew member injured.

Authorities confirmed that the injured include the 50-year-old captain, a crew member, as well as two women aged 25 and 28. All four are currently receiving medical treatment at Dr Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital.

The Maldivian Police Service has stated that an investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
