The newly appointed Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to the Maldives, Adnan Cheema, presented his credentials to Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel on Monday.
Minister Dr Khaleel thanked UNDP for its continued support and expressed confidence in Cheema’s leadership to further strengthen cooperation. Cheema affirmed UNDP’s commitment to supporting the Maldives’ development priorities and said the organisation is ready to expand its assistance based on the country’s needs.
He also highlighted ongoing collaboration in areas such as climate resilience, governance, public sector reform, and economic transformation, and discussed opportunities under the upcoming Country Programme Document (2026–2030).
Cheema has over 30 years of experience in international development, having held senior UNDP roles in Myanmar, Yemen, Iraq, and Sudan.
