The Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has launched an initiative to produce fertiliser using waste generated from the prison.
MSC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Soneva Namoonaa, a waste management organisation in the Maldives.
The Commissioner of Prisons, Hassan Zareer, signed the MoU on behalf of the Maldives Correctional Service, while Soneva Namoonaa was represented by its President, Azhoora Ahmed.
According to the Maldives Correctional Service (MCS), the initiative aims to promote sustainable waste management within the prison system. The fertiliser produced will be utilised in the agricultural component of its rehabilitation programme.
MSC stated that under the MOU, Soneva Namoonaa will provide the necessary equipment for fertiliser production, as well as conduct training sessions on the production process.
