The Managing Director of the State Electric Company (STELCO), Hussain Fahmy, has confirmed that smart power meters are ready to be introduced in Hulhumalé Phase 2.
In a statement issued via X, Fahmy revealed that the installation of smart meters in the area has already been completed. He further noted that the company is currently in the process of finalising a dedicated mobile application, designed to complement the smart meter system and offer users direct access to real-time data and functionalities.
Looking ahead, STELCO plans to transition all of its customers to the smart meter system by September. According to Fahmy, the upcoming application will enable users to monitor their electricity consumption in detail, providing data on an hourly, daily, and weekly basis. This level of transparency is intended to help consumers better understand and manage their energy usage.
In addition to improving consumption awareness, the application is expected to deliver tangible financial benefits. Fahmy stated that by promoting more efficient power use, the system could assist households in reducing their electricity expenses, thereby contributing to a lower overall cost of living. The app will also offer the capability to settle multiple bills simultaneously, streamlining the payment process.
An integral feature of the new platform, Stelco Care, will allow customers to communicate directly with STELCO’s customer service representatives.
Fahmy expressed gratitude for the consistent support and strategic guidance of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. He reaffirmed that both STELCO and the Government remain dedicated to advancing technological solutions that improve service delivery and uphold public trust in the country’s electricity supply
