Authorities have begun efforts to resolve a water leakage issue at the Islamic Centre in Malé, following heavy rainfall in the capital on Thursday.

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said teams were actively working to address the situation, which has affected parts of the Islamic Centre, including its mosque.

The Minister noted that the centre’s roof had been replaced last year using STO roofing materials, with the work carried out by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). He said the previous roof was also replaced due to similar internal water leakage concerns.

Minister Dr Shaheem assured the public that the Ministry was committed to resolving the issue, describing the Islamic Centre as a 40-year-old national building of significant importance. He said the matter would be dealt with at the highest level and gave full assurance that steps were being taken to prevent further damage.
