The Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Social and Family Development to provide technical support in developing a new online platform to publish information on convicted child sex offenders.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed at a ceremony held at the Ministry, formalises cooperation between the two institutions to improve compliance with Section 57 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The law requires that comprehensive information on child sex offenders be made publicly available online.
The agreement was signed by State Minister Ibrahim Ismail Ali on behalf of the Ministry and Deputy Prosecutor General Aishath Mohamed on behalf of the PG Office.
While a limited version of the list is currently accessible via the PG Office’s Aamahi website, the new portal set to be managed by the Ministry, is expected to feature improved functionality and accessibility. Development is scheduled for completion within one month.
Officials say the enhanced registry will ensure better public access to offender data and support broader efforts to strengthen child protection systems. The PG Office will continue to provide technical guidance throughout the implementation process.
