The Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office has filed corruption charges against former Fenaka Corporation Managing Director Ahmed Saeed over the procurement of an ice plant in Laamu Maamendhoo.

According to the PG Office, Saeed is accused of abusing his official position by facilitating the purchase of a privately constructed ice plant from Kaizan Investment for MVR 11.25 million, without securing approval from Fenaka’s Tender Evaluation Committee. The agreement was signed on April 30, 2023, bypassing established procurement protocols.

Prosecutors allege that Saeed concealed from the board that Fenaka already had plans to construct its own facility in Maamendhoo. Despite this, he advocated for the acquisition, which internal financial assessments had deemed unsustainable. The PG Office further claims that Saeed signed the purchase agreement on the same day a board meeting was held, September 7, 2023.

The case was submitted to court on May 20, 2025. If convicted, Saeed faces a prison sentence of one year, seven months, and six days.
