The Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage has launched training sessions across various islands as part of a national project aimed at collecting and archiving the memories and oral histories of the elderly.

Speaking on a state media programme, the Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, Adam Naseer Ibrahim, explained that the training sessions form part of the Ministry’s efforts to begin gathering and safeguarding the memories and oral histories of elderly citizens across the Maldives this year.

The Minister highlighted that individuals who have lived over the past 50 to 60 years hold valuable knowledge and skills that must be documented to enhance understanding of how Maldivians have upheld and expressed their national identity over time.

He stated that documenting these memories would contribute to reviving and strengthening national identity, particularly through various initiatives such as island development projects.

The Ministry is working to roll out the project before the end of the year.
