Minister of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib has affirmed the Government’s commitment to ensuring housing opportunities are made available to all citizens, regardless of their socio-economic status.

Minister Dr Muththalib made the statement while speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the housing project launched by Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC) in Gaafu Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo.

He emphasised the importance of involving the private sector in addressing the country’s housing challenges and highlighted that the affordable housing project by RCC in Kudahuvadhoo is a significant achievement in advancing this goal.

He also stated that one of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s key goals is to empower private developers to advance housing projects beyond the Greater Malé Region, thereby promoting more balanced development across the country.

The Minister stated that the Government’s policy is to ensure housing opportunities for every citizen, adding that numerous projects are currently underway to cater to both low-income individuals and those who are financially self-sufficient.

The Minister also clarified that the 65,000 housing units announced by the Government do not consist solely of social housing units, citing the significant expenditure that such an approach would entail.
