The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced the official fare structure for the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry services operating in Baa Atoll.
According to the ministry, the fare rates published in the Government Gazette reflect a significant reduction in domestic transport costs for residents. One-way ticket prices in Baa Atoll will range from MVR 35 to a maximum of MVR 125, depending on the distance. The highest fare for a return journey has been capped at MVR 225.
Previously, residents of Baa Atoll paid between MVR 150 and MVR 500 for inter atoll travel, and in some cases had to rely on expensive private hires during emergencies, often costing thousands. The new rates under the RTL service aim to make travel more affordable and accessible for all islanders.
As part of the initial rollout, ferry services in Baa Atoll will remain free of charge until 3 August 2025, allowing residents to familiarise themselves with the system. From 4 August onwards, passengers will be required to purchase tickets through the RTL mobile application, website, or partner platforms.
The introduction of the RTL service in Baa Atoll is part of national efforts under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s Administration to launch integrated transport networks across all atolls. With the addition of Baa, RTL ferries are now operational in 11 atolls across the Maldives.
