The Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) has issued advisory notices to two training centres for issuing certificates without completing the mandatory programme audit.
In a statement, the MQA said it had identified institutions conducting graduation ceremonies and awarding certificates to students without prior approval from the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, or undergoing MQA’s programme audit process.
The authority noted that some programmes were being delivered on a mobile basis in islands, raising further concerns about regulatory oversight and academic quality.
The MQA confirmed that certificates issued without completing the required audit will not be recognised, even if submitted for review retrospectively. The centres involved have been formally warned, and the authority has cautioned that repeat offences will lead to further action.
A similar case was previously reported, involving 101 higher education and training centres that failed to re-register, resulting in the disqualification of courses offered by those institutions.
