The Ministry of Social and Family Development has announced that the Empowerment Hub, a dedicated facility to provide training, skills development, and work experience for persons with disabilities, is on track for completion by December 2025.

The hub, designed for individuals aged between 18 and 40, aims to foster economic independence and greater social participation for persons with disabilities. According to the Ministry, the initiative will equip participants with practical abilities, workplace readiness, and opportunities to engage meaningfully in the community.

State Minister for Social and Family Development Ahmed Athif said the facility was conceived following functional assessments that highlighted the need for continued support and skills training for individuals with disabilities even after completing school. He stressed the importance of building not only technical skills but also interpersonal and workplace adaptability.

The Empowerment Hub will feature an inclusive café for hospitality and culinary training, a retail space to sell products made by participants, three workshop areas, a computer and IT training centre, an activity room, and a multimedia room to encourage social interaction. The Ministry said these facilities are intended to create an inclusive environment where participants can gain both professional and social skills.
