Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has reported that 99 per cent of vessels operating in Malé North Harbour are now officially registered.
MPL, which manages the North Harbour along with the commercial port and the harbour area near the fish market, allows only registered vessels to anchor there.
Speaking to state media, MPL’s Assistant General Manager for Malé North Harbour operations, Ahmed Hamdhullah Rasheed, said the registration process is ongoing and can be completed at any time. He noted that MPL staff visit the harbour every morning and evening to remind fishing vessel operators about registration requirements.
Hamdhullah said MPL is actively assisting unregistered vessels by providing information on services and the necessary documents. Vessel owners can submit the required documents via Viber or WhatsApp, and MPL will process the registration.
He added that MPL aims to operate the port as a public service rather than solely a commercial facility, ensuring convenience and accessibility for all users.
With the ongoing expansion of the North Harbour area, MPL plans to add new facilities and services, including on-site fuel and ice sales.
