Police investigate USD 30,000 gap in seized funds

The Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into a USD 30,000 shortfall identified in money seized during a case dating back to 2019.

In a statement issued to the media, police said the Crime Investigation Command is conducting inquiries into the discrepancy, which was identified in connection with funds confiscated in relation to a case lodged on 15 September 2019. The investigation is focused on the total account gap of USD 30,000.

Police also confirmed that damaged currency was recovered from the bag in which the seized funds had been kept in. The recovered money is now undergoing forensic examination as part of the ongoing inquiry.
