President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured the residents of Alifu Alifu Maalhos that the Government will extend full support for their economic benefit through the Ranfaru lagoon, which was previously declared part of Maalhos. He addressed the matter while meeting residents of the island.

The President stated that the Government’s priority remains the completion of both ongoing and stalled development projects in Maalhos. He noted that the Road Development Corporation (RDC) is preparing to expand school facilities, with plans to establish a multipurpose hall, classrooms, and a science laboratory. In this regard, he added that four classrooms have already been awarded under the current project, while additional classrooms will be included in the next phase, scheduled to commence this month. He stressed that the work required for the school would continue without interruption.

Turning to healthcare, the President observed that current services in Maalhos are being delivered in an inadequate building. He confirmed that the new health facility would be handed over to a contractor within this year and construction would begin soon. The project, he explained, will feature laboratories and additional resources. He underlined the importance of separating administrative functions from medical services, adding that the process would move forward accordingly.

In the field of sports, President Dr Muizzu announced that the development of turf grounds and the installation of lighting would commence within two to three weeks. He added that more sports facilities, including those for handball, would be made available across the island.

Infrastructure development was also highlighted, with the President stating that road construction in Maalhos, awarded to the RDC during his visit, would be expedited in line with the wishes of local residents. He affirmed that the Administration would carry forward the island’s affairs according to the community’s aspirations.

The President further explained that a coastal protection project is scheduled to begin early next year. Alongside this, a beach for tourists and another for local use will be developed, providing both economic and recreational opportunities.

On the subject of Ranfaru lagoon, which was officially added to Maalhos jurisdiction by on 6 August, the President said that the area holds significant potential for economic activities that can benefit the people of Maalhos. He reiterated that the Government would work closely with residents to ensure that development is achieved in full across the Maldives.
