The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has dissolved the Maldives Third-Way Democrats (MTD) after the party failed to meet the minimum membership required under law.

The Political Parties Act mandates at least 3,000 registered members for a party to remain active. According to ECM, MTD had only 2,277 members when its compliance deadline expired on 19 May. The party’s request for an additional three months to boost membership was rejected, as the Constitution does not allow the Commission to grant such extensions.

The decision to dissolve MTD was taken on 3 June. The party was instructed to settle its assets and liabilities within 30 days and submit a compliance report to the Commission. ECM has since confirmed that MTD has been officially removed from the register of political parties.
