Thalassaemia Patient Care Centre
A new Thalassaemia Patient Care Centre has been inaugurated at the Orange Hiya in Malé, operated by the Maldivian Blood Services, to provide specialised support and monitoring for patients.
Senior Specialist Registrar at the Maldivian Blood Services, Dr Ahmed Omar, said the centre will closely monitor patients’ treatment, with a particular focus on those living in the atolls. He noted that all patients will be reviewed every three months, while those requiring additional support will receive tailored assistance.
Chief Executive Officer of Malé City Group of Hospitals, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, highlighted that around 50 percent of thalassaemia patients live in the atolls, underscoring the importance of strengthening care for those outside the capital.
According to Haleem, the centre will provide comprehensive assistance for patients facing difficulties in accessing doctors or specialist care. He added that direct contact channels have also been established to ensure patients receive timely support in urgent cases.
