The Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) has appointed celebrated Maldivian artist Hussain Ihfal Ahmed, widely known as Iphpha, as a Local Ambassador under its ongoing Local Ambassadorship Programme.

The initiative seeks to promote the Maldives as a leading travel destination by highlighting the country’s culture, traditions and natural beauty through the voices of prominent Maldivians. By engaging local figures as tourism advocates, the programme aims to strengthen the nation’s branding and present authentic Maldivian perspectives to international audiences.

Iphpha, whose artistic career spans more than two decades, is recognised for work inspired by the islands’ culture and environment. He has staged solo exhibitions, performed live art events and taken part in international art fairs. His repertoire ranges from underwater painting to intricate sand art, earning him acclaim both at home and abroad.

As a Local Ambassador, Iphpha will share stories and insights that reflect Maldivian culture and everyday life, while using his influence and professional networks to showcase the country to wider global markets.

According to VMC, the Local Ambassadorship Programme is designed to raise the Maldives’ profile among international travellers, broaden its reach across regional and global markets, and promote authentic storytelling through cultural and creative voices. The corporation said it plans to expand the programme further by appointing additional prominent local figures.
