The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has reported that tourist arrivals reached 76,268 by mid-September, representing a 13 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
According to the latest statistics, a total of 1.56 million tourists have visited the Maldives as of 16 September 2025, a 9.6 per cent rise year-on-year.
Tourist arrivals for September so far show an average of 4,767 visitors per day, mirroring the patterns of low-season months such as May and June. This figure is lower than daily averages recorded earlier this year and during July and August. The highest daily arrivals were recorded on 15 September at 5,171, while the lowest were noted on 9 September at 4,243.
Resorts continue to dominate as the preferred choice of stay, welcoming 1.15 million visitors so far this year. This was followed by 341,140 guesthouse stays, 40,523 hotel stays, 31,999 safari vessel stays, and 1,151 stays in other facilities.
China has maintained its position since 2024 as the Maldives’ top source market, accounting for 15.8 per cent of arrivals. Russia ranked second with 12.1 per cent, followed by the United Kingdom at 9.0 per cent. Italy overtook Germany this year, with a 7 per cent share compared to Germany’s 6.9 per cent.
Operational capacity has also grown this year, with resorts and marinas offering 43,247 beds, up from 42,965 last year. Hotels increased capacity from 1,956 to 2,484 beds, guesthouses from 14,903 to 15,626 beds, and safari vessels from 2,990 to 3,198 beds.
With 0.76 million more tourists needed to reach the Government’s annual target of 2.3 million arrivals, confidence remains high that the target will be achieved as the peak season approaches.
