The first lounge at the new terminal of Velana International Airport (VIA) has officially opened, marking a key milestone in the airport’s expansion project.

Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef inaugurated the ‘Koveli’ Lounge at Terminal 1 during a ceremony attended by Deputy Managing Directors Mohamed La’man and Mujtaba Latheef, along with senior MACL officials.

Designed to deliver a premium travel experience, the 270-seat facility offers modern amenities including private rooms for passengers with special needs, a dedicated baby-care area, a children’s play zone, shower and catering services, and a quiet space for reading.

MD Shareef stated that the lounge demonstrates the Government’s commitment to supporting tourism and economic growth, adding that the swift completion of the facility highlights the administration’s focus on enhancing visitor services and strengthening the Maldives’ position as a top global destination.
