President Dr Mohamed Muizzu will confer a special commemorative shield upon Former President Uz Maumoon Abdul Gayoom (GODRG), and to present commemorative shields to the families of the martyrs of 3rd November.

These honours will be formally bestowed at the official ceremony commemorating this year’s Victory Day, scheduled to take place tomorrow at 09:00 at the Social Centre.

The decision was made in recognition of former president’s commendable service during the 3rd November terror attack, and to ensure that the State formally acknowledges, at the national level, the contributions of the martyrs of 3 November - both military and civilian.

Eight military personnel and eleven civilians were martyred during the 3rd November terror attack.

President Dr Muizzu will address the nation during the official ceremony to mark Victory Day. Defence Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon will also deliver an address at the event.

Victory Day is observed annually on 3 November to commemorate the Maldives’ victory over the 1988 coup attempt and to honour the courage of those who defended the nation’s sovereignty and independence.
