The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has stated that all disciplinary investigations involving judges are initiated strictly based on complaints and supporting evidence, rejecting claims circulating on social media that the commission is targeting judges from a specific court.

In a statement, the JSC said it remains responsible for upholding public trust in the judiciary and ensuring that justice is delivered efficiently and fairly. The commission noted that every judge is expected to perform their duties responsibly, and that its oversight functions, including monitoring judicial performance, conducting training, and ensuring the security and administrative support of judges, are designed to maintain judicial integrity across all courts.

Addressing the allegations directly, the JSC emphasised that no disciplinary inquiry is launched without first thoroughly assessing the issues raised in an official complaint. The commission added that it does not pursue investigations based on the identity of the judge or the court in which they serve, but strictly on the merits of the complaint and the evidence submitted.

According to the JSC, a total of 176 complaints regarding judicial conduct have been filed so far this year. Of these, 57 cases have been taken forward for investigation. Only six judges, equivalent to 3.4 per cent of all complaints, were found to have committed disciplinary offences, which the commission described as a relatively small proportion compared to the total caseload.
