The first Urban Primary Health Centre established in the Greater Malé Region has formally begun providing services, a significant step in the Government’s efforts to strengthen the public health system. The facility was inaugurated on 19 November by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

According to IGMH, the centre is designed to offer general health information, routine medical check-ups, and treatment for common illnesses. It houses a General Practice (GP) clinic, a Child Health Clinic and a Wellness Clinic, with services available daily from 8:30am to 10:00pm, and from 3:30pm to 10:00pm on Fridays.

The Urban Primary Health Centre provides three main service categories: consultations with general practitioners for common ailments, specialist referrals for cases requiring advanced care, and coordinated access to specialist consultations. In addition, the centre will support national-level public health programmes aimed at improving disease prevention and community wellbeing.

Preventive healthcare remains a key priority under President Dr Muizzu’s health policy, which emphasises tackling diseases before they occur. As part of this approach, five additional Urban Primary Health Centres are planned for the Greater Malé Region, three in Malé City and two in Hulhumalé.
