First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has extended Huravee Day greetings to the nation.

In a message shared via her official X account, the First Lady said the occasion is marked in remembrance of the sacrifices of Dhon Bandaarain. She added that she prays for the people of the Maldives to remain devoted to putting the country first and safeguarding its freedom and sovereignty.

Huravee Day, observed annually on the third day of Jumad-ul-Akhirah in the Islamic calendar, commemorates Dhon Bandaarain’s leadership in expelling the Malabari forces that invaded the Maldives in 1752. His successful campaign, following months of resistance, restored the country’s independence.
